Successful beach angling competition held in Belmullet

3400

Recently, Belmullet SAC held their popular annual beach angling competition. The two day event was fished on two beaches on the Mullet Peninsula: Cross Beach and Drum Beach. Read their short report below…

With very little surf and the incredible sun beaming all day (nobody was complaining ;-)) a good variety of fish were caught including a fine 37 cm flounder by Cormac Burke Killybegs Mariners.

Fishing was marginally better on day two on Drum Beach with a total of 82 fish caught, recorded and released. Many thanks to the anglers who traveled long (and short) distances for this 2-day competition in what is our 60th year in existence.

It’s your ongoing participation that makes it worthwhile!

Final results were as follows:

Overall winner:  Billy Gilvarry

2nd place: Darren Reynolds

3rd place: Martin Carey

Best Angler Saturday: Billy Gilvarry

Best Angler Sunday: Martin Carey

Longest fish:  Martin Carey

Best Junior Angler: Sally Gilvarry.

Again congratulations to the winners! And many thanks to all participants and the officers of the club, who have helped to keep the club alive for the past 60 years.
