It’s been a fairly windy week in west Clare, with SW winds wreaking havoc with boat fishing, and fishing mostly confined to the shelter of the Shannon Estuary. On the rare occasion the wind relented and they were able to get near Loop Head, anglers on the Clare Dragoon found plenty pollack, even in close and had great sport.
At least inside the estuary there were still mackerel to be caught, so fresh bait has not been a problem. The wind direction, has, however, means fishing only the most sheltered marks, but here anglers have been catching some thornback ray and the odd tope, as well as the usual doggies and some bull huss too.
