Richie with a bass

The Bass Fishing in Cork Harbour is still very productive according to Eire Bass guide Richie Ryan. The guide takes up the story…

With the salmon season coming to a close it’s great to see what used to be called Salmon Bass so abundant in Cork Harbour compared to what used to also be a very bountiful river species. However, September winds have made things very difficult for us guides, but when we have managed to get out the fishing has been very good indeed.

Max Denniff wanted to give his dad Brian a roundy birthday treat. Conditions didn’t allow for fishing outside the harbour so we were limited to its environs. While the returns were limited, we did manage to get a few bass, the birthday boy included, as can be seen from the photograph.

Declan Foley, a returning client, was hoping to repeat his excellent pollack on the fly experience back in early May but had to settle for a lot of bass on lure instead, how bad! The elements were against us for the pollack, but it worked out as can be seen from the photo.

Eoin Flood, first cast nets a bass – and wins junior angler Catch of the Week!

And now to a 6 year old boy who is absolutely obsessed with fishing. It was a birthday treat for young Eoin Flood, one which he will never forget I reckon. On the very first cast, he hooked a Bass and landed it. To say that the fishing was superb is an understatement. It couldn’t have been better for a birthday fishing treat. The smile on his young face says it all. A champion angler.

Go fishing…

And to the Salmon and Trout Anglers out there, remember, there is an option at the end of your season. If you want to book Richie…
