And now another report from guide Richie Ryan of Eire Bass about his recent outings.
Richie takes up the story…
“The weather has been kind, but the bass are a bit on the small side lately. On a positive note, there are plenty of them in Cork Harbour.
I tried to impress two VIP Cork Salmon Angling members how prolific the bass were on the fly. I failed miserably in my quest. My excuse, the water temperature 18°C. Kevin Mc Donald and Jack Power only had pollack on the fly, but at least they put a bend on the rod. Salmon anglers know full well the dearth of quarry and the absence of the latter. I feel their pain, I gave up salmon angling 3 years ago.
Two American anglers, however, managed to catch a good number of Bass on a morning outing. Daisy and Joseph Swette were very happy with their experience on board Sea Hawk. Tracing roots was next on the agenda, the fishing an added bonus.
A returning client Paul Kunkels from Dublin wanted to try pollack on the fly and as usual they did not disappoint. He was very impressed with this hard fighting and very underrated species.
A few small bass were also landed but the catch of the week was a beautiful tub gurnard on the fly for Paul. Another session next month he enthusiastically declared, as he skipped happily up the gangway.
Go fishing
