David Hehir, skipper of the charter boat Algerine out of Dungarvan reports on an exceptional shark fishing trip he had last week Thursday 10th of July, the best he has witnessed…
We departed Dungarvan Harbour with our crew at 8am on a beautiful calm sunny day and headed offshore – 25 miles. The drift was very slow but on the hour mark we had our first Blue shark which my son Conor (10) managed to bring to the side of the boat.

From there on out it was non stop action all day everyone onboard had sharks. My father Patrick, Danny, Sinead, Sean and Liam all landed sharks. As soon as I had a shark measured and tagged another was ready to come aboard for tagging. Double and treble hooks were common.

We stopped fishing at Blue shark no. 23 as everyone was exhausted. At that stage we had up to 10 sharks circling the boat at any one time and they were just ripping open the chum bags. For the next hour we fed the sharks with what fish we had onboard. It was amazing to see them to feed on top of the water.
