NCFFI reports on the All Ireland Youth Championships fished at Oaklands…
The second of three championship events dedicated to young anglers, the ๐๐น๐น-๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฌ๐ผ๐๐๐ต ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐บ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฝ took place on Saturday at the popular Oaklands Lake in New Ross. The competition dedicated to ๐ณ๐น๐ผ๐ฎ๐ ๐ณ๐ถ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ป๐ด, gave the young anglers from across the provinces a chance to demonstrate their skill and precision with this traditional method all under the watchful eye of the Youth Team Manager.
On a scorching hot day, conditions were far from easy, but the young competitors rose to the challenge with much enthusiasm. The lake fished hard in the heat, with skimmers making up the bulk of the catches during the first half of the match. Some anglers recorded impressive bags, reaching up to 10kg before the halfway mark.
As the session wore on, the carp finally began to feed, and several anglers managed to build on their weights significantly in the second half.

Overseeing the event was Team Ireland Youth ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ๐ด๐ฒ๐ฟ, ๐๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฎ๐ป ๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ป๐ฒ, who commended the efforts of all involved. โThe boys all fished brilliantly on a hard day,โ he said. โItโs great to see such talent developing at this level, especially in difficult conditions like today.โ
A huge thank-you goes out to the parents, organisers, and supporters who helped make the day a successโand of course to Adrian and staff at Oaklands lake for once again providing an excellent venue.
The event was proudly supported by Inland Fisheries Ireland, whose continued backing supports our promotion of youth angling across the country.
This float-only event is part of a growing effort to provide structured, skill-focused competition for youth anglers in Ireland, helping to build confidence, experience, and community within the sport.
Go fishing…
