The Ulster Krakens SAC made the trip to Donegal for round eight of their league and were hoping for an improvement on the fishing following a disappointing trip to Wicklow last time around. Sadly, it wasn’t to be, as the only fish that were showing in any numbers were non-counting mackerel, which hoovered up some anglers’ baits almost as soon as they it the water. Mackerel were so abundant that talk turned to switching to feathers to get the freezer stocked up…

Anglers were also troubled by boats passing by close in and interfering with lines, so all in all it was a difficult night on the beach. As counting fish were few and far between, scorecards were fairly sparse, and a small run of fish would bring you to the top of the leaderboard, and that’ how it happened for Raymong McCann, who had a flurry of fish, including a nice ray to give him the honours on the night.
