A new bye law, The Sligo District – Conservation of Trout on Lough Arrow (including the Unshin River) Bye-law No. 1019, is place on Lough Arrow. The bye law will help protect trout stocks into the future.

  • An angler may not use more than 1 trolling rod and no more that two trolling rods may be used at a time on a boat.

Bye-law No. 1019, 2025

The Sligo District – Conservation of Trout on Lough Arrow (including the Unshin River) Bye-law No. 1019, 2025 prohibits the taking of more than two brown trout from the waters of Lough Arrow and the River Unshin as referred to in the bye-law or have in possession in any place on or near the said waters.

The bye-law also prohibits the taking of any brown trout of less than fourteen inches (35.56 centimetres) in length measured in a
straight line from the tip of the snout to the fork of the tail from the waters of Lough Arrow.

A person shall not troll on the said waters using more than one fishing line, or fish from a boat so that there are more than two fishing lines used for trolling at the same time.
