David Norman ofΒ Angling Adventures West CorkΒ reports from West Cork…

Stephen Traynor and I had a reasonably challenging kayak fishing trip this week. The forecast predicted a steady blow from SSW that would make things a bit lumpy out there but I saw no mention of the squalls that came through on a regular basis pushing the conditions to outside of our operational limits.

Ready for the off

We tucked away as best we could and ventured out in the lulls but it was hard to fully capitalize on the action we could see going on below us on the screen despite, Stephen doing a great job of absorbing all the coaching super quickly and I have to say we worked very well together as a team, the main problem was we just couldn’t get into the areas that I know hold better quality fish due to the sea state.

The fish were there, but getting a bite was another story

All that said Stephen connected with three species including this fine Wrasse, I got to try some new tactics which by the way would be impossible without my motor and I’m pretty sure Stephen took away a lot of things to add to his own fishing either from shore or from a kayak if he decides to upgrade and go further afield.

The most important thing is we had a lot of fun, and I look forward to doing it all again very soon!
