Cobh SAC report on their Boat Master Angler, Round 4…

Cobh S.A.C. fished the 4th leg of the Boat Master Angler series on Sunday, 12th July. A total of 12 senior anglers and 3 junior anglers competed aboard Deora De and Camden Mist.

The original plan was to fish the Power Head grounds, but strong gusty north-easterly winds forced both boats to remain within the shelter of Cork Harbour. It was great to welcome two new junior anglers, Alex and Oisin, making their first-ever club outing, along with Adam, who was fishing only his second competition. A special thank you goes to Piotrek, who gave up his own fishing time to coach our new anglers. Thanks to his patience and guidance, all three juniors caught fish and, most importantly, enjoyed their day on the water.

The competition was closely contested, with both boats recording plenty of fish during the first session. Fishing became much slower in the second session, with only a handful of fish landed.

The highlight of the afternoon was a fine Thornback Ray caught by Dave Jolly, which secured him the overall victory.

Senior Results

  1. Dave Jolly – 174 pts
  2. Jim Mellis – 163 pts
  3. Mark Greenwood – 162 pts

  3. Oisin Holden

Congratulations to all of our winners and well done to everyone who took part.
Finally, a sincere thank you to our boat skippers, Dylan and Jim, for safely getting everyone on the fish despite the challenging conditions. We look forward to seeing everyone at the next round!
