Part of the rationale of Fisheries Awareness Week (FAW) is about getting new people into the sport of angling in the hope that they will take it up as a hobby. FAW also looks to encourage those who have given up angling to get involved again by providing a schedule of free events in association with industry stakeholders.

Oisin Cahill, IFI reports on a great story about Richie Moran, age 68, who bought the rod shown in the photo in 1972 for £10 (yes 10 pounds) in Rory`s Tackle shop in Dublin. Richie only used the rod unsuccessfully on three occasions. He got married shortly after that and the rod lay idle in a dark corner in the house until last Sunday when both he and the rod made a return to fishing. Delighted with the fishing and the fish he caught, Richie has promised that the rod will be out again soon!
