Shane Gallagher reports on the final days of the salmon season on the Drowes…

The sun has set on the 2015 salmon season on the Drowes. Thanks to all who visited during the year. The past few weeks have seen water levels continuously drop and the season drew to a close with the gauge reading just 0.418 metres, less than half the opening day level.

The month of September, apart from decent catches during the first week of the month, has been quiet, with low water, dour fish and few fresh fish entering the system. The summer finally arrived in the last few days, with temperatures reaching up to 18 degrees and good rises of trout during the warmer days.

No doubt there will be more water and fewer midges when the salmon season rolls round again in 3 months time!
