Portumna Coarse Angling Club held the Curleys Festival, Sponsored by Waterways Ireland, last week from 19th September to 23rd. Around 40 anglers competed, 32 of these from outside the area and abroad. The venues fished were Rodger’ Island, the
Town stretch, Salmon run and Meelick. there were some good weights during the event. On Day 2 bags to over 59lb were weighed in at the Meelick stretch, where all the fish were got fishing the pole to hand at 9m.

After 5 days of fishing there was just one winner – Paul Hallen.

Heaviest Bag – Dave Brooks 59lb 4oz
There was over 2000lb of roach caught during the competition, averaging 10 to the pound. There were also a few bream around and hybrids.
