Monaghan offers an abundance of excellent coarse fishing centres. A number of angling centres have developed as a result of the fishing on offer and the notable centres are Castleblaney, Carrickmacross and Monaghan Town. Lough Muckno in Castleblaney is a spectacular venue and well worth a visit. The smaller lakes also offer great sport and anglers can expect good stocks of perch, bream, tench, rudd, roach, hybrids, pike and carp in most lakes. A number of coarse angling festivals take place in the area each year and attract good number of Irish and international anglers.
