Sandeel lures proving effective for Killybegs Mariners

Killybegs Mariners report improving conditions along the Donegal coast, with some nice fish now showing from local shore marks during recent lure fishing sessions around the top of the tide. Check out their short report below…

A nice hours luring over the top of the tide with a few nice fish showing along the shore marks now. Sandeel imitations always work and with the large number of Basking sharks about tell us there is lots of plankton and feed about now as the bay comes to life feeding on the bottom of the food chain.

Tralee Bay Grand Slam of Rays for Raymond

James Raymond of Irish Angling Adventures is a guide who we have had the pleasure of fishing with on more than one occasion, so we’re aware of his vast angling knowledge and considerable skills. So we’re not surprised, if a little jealous, at his latest catch – knocking out a Tralee Bay grand slam (again) so early in the season. Check out the photos below of some beautiful rays that make up the slam – sting ray, thornback, painted ray and undulate ray.

Well done James – a great start to the summer season, and we’re sure there will be plenty more…

Clare Dragoon back on the fish in west Clare

Skipper Luke Aston is back on the water in the Clare Dragoon at last, and back with his welcome updates on the fishing. First day back last week started with a stop at Loop Head, where they met a few mackerel and plenty of coalfish. “Heading west we stopped on a few reefs and got some steady catches of Pollack. With just a few other fish through them. Then we ended the day with a lively Tope on the drift.”

Welcome back Luke, we look forward to keeping up to date with the great fishing off west Clare this year!

Steady reef fishing and plenty of mackerel in Clare

Skipper Sean Maguire had more anglers out this week enjoying the fine weather. Mackerel were plentiful, with “good blasts of big mackerel on and off all day” according to Sean.A breezy northerly wind gave good long drifts over the reefs and they enjoyed steady fishing, with a good feed of mackerel to bring home the bonus.
