Lower Bann CAA reports on their latest trip to the river…
08 April: A beautiful spring day greeted the 18 anglers who contested the opening round of the Lower Bann 2018 summer league.
Feeder tactics proved the most productive method and most enjoyed plenty of bites as the river ran at full capacity.
Colin Elder on peg 18 topped the scales with 6 Kilo 050g, very closely followed by Johnny McKinley on 6Kilo 030g from peg 17. Johnny Keith was 3rd with 5Kilo 700. John Taggart had the best weight in section in the 40’s with 4Kilo 680. This also gave John 4th position overall.

Rory Murray about to relase one of his salmon #CPRsavesfish
Bangor Erris Angling reports some fantastic fishing continuing on the Carrowmore Lake as the weather remains settled…
Rory Murray about to relase one of his salmon #CPRsavesfish
01 April: 5 salmon landed today and 2 were released. Carrowmore lake regular Rory Murray landed no less than 3 spring salmon. The hardcore crew – brothers Frank Dooley and Declan Dooley both had 1 each. They weighed 8lbs and 2 of 7lbs. We are guessing that on the back of this weekends angling despite the harsh conditions that enquiry levels will hit the roof! No rest for the wicked Seamus. No fools around these parts today except perhaps the ones that stayed at home.
10 April: As the weather gets a bit milder and the winds have settled the angling has significantly improved on Carrowmore the lake. There were 5 fish caught on Tuesdsay by C. McLean 8lbs, Baines 8lbs, P. Beirne 7.5lbs, M. Reuland 9lbs. and the master P. Foley 10 lbs
Martin Reuland and his 9lb. salmon
11 April: Despite the day remaining slightly cool and overcast – the conditions overall were favourable for good angling on the lake with light winds. There were many fish hooked and lost today but here are two of the lucky anglers who landed fresh Spring Salmon on the Fly. It should be noted that these fish were photographed literally the moments after they were caught and were tagged – we know that some of you will wonder…

Gary Chandler. 4lb 06oz
Dave oddy. 1lb 04oz
Malcom Singleton. DNW
A bit of a struggle again but things have to improve soon with the weather getting milder the fish have left the winter venues but haven’t turned up in the summer haunts yet maybe in a week or two
08 April: A slow day on the canal in Leitrim today well except for end peg Robert who decided to show us how its done again so here are the results.

More about the Feale
The River Feale is among the outstanding salmon and sea trout rivers of Ireland. The River rises in the mountain district of North Co Cork and flows westerly for 75 km (46 miles) through the county towns of Abbeyfeale and Listowel and enters the sea south of Ballybunion. For the final 10 kms (6 miles) of its course, it is known as the Cashen River. Throughout its meandering journey to the sea it flows through a picturesque landscape of heather bog land, fertile valleys and rolling hills. Its main tributaries, flowing from both North and South, combine to add in excess of 160 kms (100 miles) of fishable waters.
About 50% of the main River Feale and the Smearlagh River is controlled by 5 angling clubs. These clubs are some of the best angling waters and each club offers day tickets for visiting anglers.
North Kerry Anglers Association issues daily & weekly permits for fishing on 9 miles of the Feale & Smearlagh rivers. Web: www.northkerryanglers.com

Brown tags
Brown tag fishery: Under the salmon tagging regulations, this year the River Feale is designated as a brown tag fishery.Anglers must affix a brown tag along with a blue tag to any salmon which is retained. This means that salmon retained on the River Feale will have two tags attached. All brown tags (including 1st tag) will be issued from IFI officers ONLY . Please ring 087-7639236 to arrange to receive your first brown tag prior to commencing fishing
Additional brown tags will only be issued by IFI staff, they may be contacted at 087-7639236 and they will arrange to meet and issue an additional tag upon verification that the previous brown tag has been used, i.e. a fish has been caught and recorded in the logbook.
1 brown tag will be issued at a time to each angler.
If you acquired a 1 day or 21 day licence which has expired, or you have finished fishing for the season, and you have not used the brown tag then this must be surrendered to an IFI officer prior to departure by phoning 087-7639236. IFI would like to thank you for your co-operation with this.
If an angler has used his brown tag or doesn’t have a brown tag in his possession to use then he must fish catch and release methods, i.e.single barbless hook and no worms.
Brown tags will continue to be issued until the angling quota is reached.
To report a suspected pollution or poaching activity please contact the 24 hour hotline on 0818 34 74 24
The Portumna Coarse Angling Club reports on the fishing on the River Shannon at Portumna…
A good stamp of fish continues to appear at the deeper pegs and we are looking forward to a rise in temperatures ahead of the festival. At the weekend there were decent bags of roach, hybrids and skimmers at Stick Ups and the Town, even with the water that was coming down the river.

Stefan Martin from Killybegs Mariners SAC reports on the fishing around Donegal Bay…
Ray
09 April: A first foray at the Ray bank with word coming through of rays being caught provided some nice rod bending action today. A lovely spell of weather over the weekend it was balmy on the rocks awaiting the big pull down runs of the rays on the baits. A few flatties gobbled down the big baits also.
#CPRsavesfish
Great watching the rays flap their wings on release back to the depths like some Jurassic creature of the skies long ago with its armoured plating row of thorns and chequered patterns it must strike great fear into its prey below. Great to get out again enjoying the Spring air.
10 April: An early season excursion tramping the animal trails along the cliffs of Donegal Bay with the lure rod and a selection of soft plastics to tempt out some early season pollack from the baltic waters.
Choose your weapon
Always a nice buzz along the cliff tops watching the gulls and cormorants soar below you and seeing the swells swamp the rocks in a white raging foam. We all await the coming of the Spring needle eye.
