Stefan Martin from Killybegs Mariners SAC reports on the fishing around Donegal Bay…
09 April: A first foray at the Ray bank with word coming through of rays being caught provided some nice rod bending action today. A lovely spell of weather over the weekend it was balmy on the rocks awaiting the big pull down runs of the rays on the baits. A few flatties gobbled down the big baits also.
Great watching the rays flap their wings on release back to the depths like some Jurassic creature of the skies long ago with its armoured plating row of thorns and chequered patterns it must strike great fear into its prey below. Great to get out again enjoying the Spring air.
10 April: An early season excursion tramping the animal trails along the cliffs of Donegal Bay with the lure rod and a selection of soft plastics to tempt out some early season pollack from the baltic waters.
Always a nice buzz along the cliff tops watching the gulls and cormorants soar below you and seeing the swells swamp the rocks in a white raging foam. We all await the coming of the Spring needle eye.
