New season unlikely to see ease in depletion of salmon stocks – Irish Examiner

Inland Fisheries Institute (IFI) has reported the number of fishing passing through counters, in recent years, has been the lowest since 2002.

At this stage, scientists regard climate change as, perhaps, the biggest threat to the wild Atlantic salmon, voicing serious concerns about the Arctic ice melt.

For many decades, we’ve seen pollution, over-fishing and diseases being cited as major threats to the species, which has declined by more than 60% in 40 years….

A quiet day for pike anglers on Lough Derravaragh

Few boats out on Derravaragh last Saturday, with only a handful of small pike once again being caught. It was lovely conditions, but the Derravaragh pike are proving hard to entice these last few weeks. Saying that the perch were also off the feed, and I only managed a few small fish on the main lake. The Roach Hole was even less productive as was the River Inny, which is very low for this time of year. Not to worry these venues will come good, and if you are in the right place at the right time, it will be magic fishing.
