German duo win World Pairs Angling Championships, Leitrim Observer

German duo, Jens Koschnick and Thorsten Kusters, scooped this year’s Lakelands and Inland Waterways World Pairs Angling Championships title and the €10,000 prize. In a week with some of the best weights seen in the five years of this competition the relative newcomers to the Irish scene held an impressive lead all the way through. Consistent fishing saw a second place finish from Ireland regulars Rod Scott and Michael Buchwalder…

Another tough week for the Moy's salmon anglers

Water levels have not been kind to the Moy’s anglers and the heavy weather that whipped the west coast of Ireland have added to their woes. With only about 100 salmon reported by the fisheries on the river this goes down as another poor return for this time of the season. Angling effort is low partly due to the conditions and in part due to the poor reports coming from the anglers. There were no fish from the Moy Fishery beats last week. The best of what fishing there was came from the Foxford area, though most fisheries only managed a handful of salmon if that. Only the Foxford Salmon Anglers at Rinanney saw a catch in the teens.

Nick and friend Alain were over from Belgium once again for a spot of both coarse and pike fishing with Nick’s father JP. While J.P. was off pike fishing, Nick and Alain did a spot of coarse fishing. They had a few good days on the bream, hybrids and roach.

Belgian anglers can't get enough of Longford pike fishing

Jean-Pierre along with son Nick and friend Alain were over from Belgium once again for a spot of both coarse and pike fishing. For J.P., it is his fourth visit this year and he managed to catch a few nice Pike during his stay along with a lot of smaller pike.  The fish fell to both trolling and dead bait methods.

Fieldhouse has field day at Arvagh King of Clubs

Anglers mainly fished the pole on the lower peg numbers at Corfree on Lough Gowna

At the end of Day 3 in the Arvagh King of Clubs, Ian Fieldhouse is leading the field on 45.810kg. Not too far behind him is Lee Koot on 41.350kg and currently running in 3rd place is Doug Calvey on 40.960kg.

Ian and Lee both were off to a great start on Day 1 as each bagged over 20kg to open their accounts at this popular event.  Doug was on a slow burn and after 2 modest catches he pulled out the stops to challenge for a podium finish with his own 20kg plus catch yesterday. The biggest bag on Day 2 went to Gary Charles who netted a fine catch of 22.300kg. This puts him in 5th place just a100g behind Kevin Rowles. There’s only 600g between the four anglers chasing Ian so it really is all to play for in the King of Clubs.
