Ian Powell, Blackwater Lodge, reports that with the Munster Blackwater is in perfect fly order, but the unrelenting sunshine is not helping things…

Munster Blackwater
The Munster Blackwater river below Blackwater Lodge at 08.20 today
with the gauge at 0.34m

22/04 It’s a bright, sunny day today. Air temperature was 4ºC at 08.00 this morning. Yesterday was a glorious sunny day – the warmest in Ireland this year. Air temperature was 16ºC at 19.30 but the nights are still cool when we have clear skies.

Just one fish for us in the last week with very few anglers fishing. There is the odd report of fish moving on both the upper & lower river including a couple of double figure fish at Ballyhooly!

The upper river is falling slowly & steadily & the Killavullen gauge is at 1.23m at 08.00 this morning. Clarity on the upper river is 5-6 feet.  The lower river at Ballyduff is also falling only very slowly & is at 0.34m at 08.00. Clarity is about 5-6 feet.

Water temperature at    Ballyduff: 9.2ºC / 48.6ºF @ 08.00 today.
Water temperature at Killavullen:  13 – 11 ºC / 55.4– 51.8ºF.

Prospects

Conditions are absolutely perfect for fly on both the lower & upper river today. The forecast is now for broken weather from Thursday night through until next Wednesday.
