Lindsey Clarke reports on the salmon fishing on Lough Melvin

Monday 27th May  to Sunday 2nd June 2013.

The lough was fairly quiet this week given the time of year. The start of the week brought wet conditions but rainfall lessened over the week. A number of boats ventured out after salmon though I have only heard of 3 salmon caught to date. These were all caught from around the Rossinver Fishery and unusually enough, none were reported from along the Garrison Shore which is usually where most are caught. On Monday, Seamus O’Dare reported a 6lb grilse caught trolling from the southern side of the mouth of the Border River. On Thursday, Noel Johnston recorded an 8lb 8oz salmon caught trolling off Eden Point and on Friday, Seamus O’Dare accounted for an 8lb salmon caught trolling along the Roosky Shore.
