Stefan Martin reports on the FishComm Ltd species competition fished earlier this week…
A super days fishing for the FishComm Ltd boat species competition for the Mariners club yesterday on board Leah C skippered by Adrian Molloy of tuna.ie putting the lads over the fish all day long and breaking Adrian’s record of most species for one day landing 23 different species on Donegal Bay.
Some lovely fish including megrims, haddocks, plaice, brill, spotted rays, blonde rays, cod, coleys and all the usuals on a busy days fishing in great weather.

Winner on the day of the FishComm Ltd shield and tackle voucher for €150 was Gavin Dorrian with 14 species. Pat Cunningham also had 14 but it came down to who had longest fish so close and Pat got the 2nd place prize a lovely ugly stik gold rod. Then 2 lads were tied on 13 species but longest fish again won 3rd place for Christopher Noctor a €50 tackle voucher.
Best teams prize went to Pat Cunningham and Gavin Dorrian with 17 species between them winning a reel each. Longest round fish prize was won by Gavin Dorrian for an 83cm Ling and longest flatfish prize was won by Michael McGettigan with a nice 43cm Megrim.

Once again huge thanks to Cormac Burke of FishComm Ltd for sponsoring great prizes to the club for both the FishComm Ltd open shore and then the boat species comps. Such great events that all local anglers look forward to each summer and great prizes. Also thanks to Land and Sports and Mooney Boats also for sponsoring reels and other prizes much appreciated. What a great days fishing and well done to everyone for taking part especially the winners.
Mariners – FishComm
“It gave me great pleasure to be the main sponsor for the Mariners boat angling competition again this year,” said Cormac Burke, MD of FishComm Ltd.
“It’s always wonderful to return back to my home town every year but even more so when I can be involved in the fantastic local angling which the Mariners SAC, both on shore and at sea, have worked hard to develop and promote to the wider European angling community and has resulted in a major boost to local tourism with anglers from near and far coming to get a taste of fishing in this beautiful part of Ireland,” he added.
As well as sponsoring the main prizes for both the Mariners SAC shore and boat competitions, a prize top-of-the-range boat rod was also donated to the club by FishComm clients MMG (Maloy Maritime Group) from Norway.
