Michael Flanagan from Midland Angling reports on the first week of fishing on Lough Owel…
I was chatting to Davie Corcoran of Tullaghan Pitch & Put Center and he told me anglers were out in force on Owel opening day. We lashed out across Owel last Saturday, and had a few nice fish some over the 2lbs mark.

weighed 2.51lbs.
The lake is still quite high, even dough the Royal Canal and supply is low. A few local anglers have put their boats out at Tullaghan but Mullalys is boat free at the moment. The problem is now will your boat be there the next morning.
AGM
Lough Owel anglers will hold their Annual General Meeting this coming Thursday March 10th in Tullaghan Angling Center. It’s an 8pm start and if interested in going L.O.T.P.A. drop out that night. The club is very active and the first competition of 2016 will be the Ace Cup fly-fishing competition. This Cup was presented by the late Mr. Oliver Buckley and a good turn out of anglers are expected. There is a 3 fish bag limit on all Owel competition and a 13-inch size limit.
I.F.I. have recent erected signs on Owel, and you will also need a permit to fish Owel.
