Joop Van Gaalen from Holland decided to have a fishing holiday to Ireland this year and stay with Kevin and Jane Lyons of Melview Lodge in Longford, Joop had four days fishing out of six due to the bad weather conditions.
Kevin said he managed to put together some very good catches considering the weather conditions, the catches consisted of nice Roach, Rudd, Roach/Rudd hybrids and some very big Perch. Joop said “who needs Bream when your catching fish like this”. Every day I had good catches and I’m looking forward to returning next year, Kevin himself fished two of the days with Joop and said the fishing was great. To be able to catch fish like this every cast makes it all worthwhile.

Phil Gimbert and friend Nigel Baker were on a fishing trip to Ireland and decided to use guest house owner and local Guide Kevin Lyons of Melview Lodge in Longford, Kevin said the lads worked hard regarding Prebaiting and managed to catch some very nice Bream and even a bonus Tench. Kevin said it all paid off in the end for them as they managed to get the Bream feeding in front of them ( pictures next week ), Phil said it’s a shame we did not have a few more days as we really got them feeding and could of had a lot more.

Fishing in and around Longford area has been very good producing catches to over 140 lb., catches have consisted of Bream to just over 5 lb., Roach to over 1 lb., Tench, nice Roach/Rudd hybrids and some big Perch. Feeder has proved the most productive approach; various bait combinations of maggot, worm, corn have all produced fish. With the changed in weather rain and high winds and raising water levels are making some of the venues hard to fish, tune in next week and see how Phil and Nigel from the UK done on their prebaited Bream swim.
