Ann McGovern reports from Greenville House B&B, Carrigallen on the recent Carrigallen Angling Festival

This popular annual festival attracted 43 anglers mainly from the UK in the past week.  Four lough venues were fished over four days at Glasshouse, Rockfield, the steps at Gulladoo Lake and at Haughton’s shore on Garadice Lough.  The cooler temperatures kept catch sizes down but overall it was a very fair match with good catches of small roach and hybrids featuring on many of the venues.  Due to the good turnout, the winner John Jowett won the festival with a weight of 34.59 Kilos to win €1,000 first prize.  Second was local  angler Andrew Lightbown fromely from UK with 32 Kilos and third was Dave Brettle with 31.67 Kilos.  Another local and recent individual winner of the World Pairs, Francis McGoldrick from Ballyconnell was forth with 30.08 Kilos.  Nineteen anglers recorded over 20 Kilos of fish.  This well supported angling festival was enjoyed by all and looks set to attract a bigger crowd next year.
