Dogged determination and four years of badgering politicians came to fruition this week when Lough Muckno’s access development was officially opened to anglers.

The 900 acre lake alongside the lively town of Castleblayney can now offer drive-on access to 220 permanent pegs and the chance to share in great fishing for bream, hybrids, roach, pike and perch.

Monaghan County – like most places in Ireland – offer free year-round angling with no need for fishing licences of any kind.   And there will be four brand new angling festival staged on the lake; two during the Easter holiday, one in July and the fourth starting on September 30.

All UK angling holiday specialists offer inclusive holidays to Castleblayney.
