Thursday 27th September saw the best day of the week and with no reports lately from Lough Ramor I decided to pay a visit to spend some time at this great venue. I wanted to see if the fish were in the cooperative mood and if the stamp of fish is still as good as it has always been. I was targeting roach with a simple feeder rig, twenty four inch hook length, size 12 hook and two red maggots. The water was clear, intermittent sunshine, no rain and a very light breeze, perfect conditions. Ground bait was a mix of brown crumb darkened down with black lake. Bites were slow at first and I was not surprised as I was fishing into six feet. I was afraid that the feeder would put them off but this was not the case, I kept the feed going in every cast except when I ran out at the end of the session but the fish did not seem to mind. Takes were very finicky but they were consistent. At one stage the bites stopped but a half turn on the reel brought an immediate response on most casts. A good stamp of roach with an occasional skimmer and hybrid was the result. I am sure that anglers would have a great days sport at this fantastic venue.
