Lough Ree
There was a pike fishing competition on Lough Ree on Sunday with 33 boats taking part. Michael Hughes from Kiltoom had the winning fish of  24lb 6oz which he located  inside the wall at Ballybay.  Second was Paul Fallon with a 17lb 12oz fish caught in Portrun Bay.  A total of 9 big fish were weighed in altogether all doubles.

Lanesborough Pike angling Club held a successful angling instruction programme for beginners over last weekend, 16th and 17th June. The first day involved a demonstration and theory course in the local community centre on how to set up rods, attaching the correct bait and looking at the biology of the River Shannon in Lansborough.  Local anglers along with officers from  Inland Fisheries Ireland gave talks/demonstration on water safety, fish health and  care for fish and the bank environment.  It was a great day.

At the Bridge in Lanesborough gearing up

On day two, the children took to the bank of the river, to try out their newly learned skills. All children caught coarse fish over a 4 hour period, with most catching over 20 fish each…..mostly roach. The two days were a huge success. Lanesborough pike angling club have invested in a lot of fishing gear recently which was used on the day. They are planning a similar day next year, after this success.
