Marine Day – Ballymoney, Co Wexford

Family Day to find out more about our shore, fish and shellfish

 

            

All events start and end on Ballymoney Near and Far Beach 

1.00 pm Create a photogenic fish using materials found on a Wexford shore. Please pre-register your group so we have a marker flag ready for you. You might combine this creative task with a shore picnic (bring your own)

2.00 pm Opening of Ballymoney Marine Day by Nessa Childers MEP with fish photo shoot, followed by ‘Fish walk’ to admire artistic displays and any fishy messages.

3.00 pm Coastal and Marine activities some running in parallel including:-

Ø  Treasure hunt  

Ø  Guided Ballymoney shore walking trail trial, shore formation, wild food, history ..

Ø  Shore art –  sketching and painting  and  mosaic

4.30 pm Unveiling of a IFI Sea bass Information plaque. Information on the fish and Ireland’s exemplary conservation measures for it.  IFI representative SE region.

5.00 pmPrize giving Music and light refreshments

6.00 pm END

 

Acknowledgements: This event is organised by Coastwatchers and Ballymoney community to celebrate our coastal and marine environment. All are working as volunteers. It is one of many events across Europe organised in cooperation with OCEAN 2012 by environmental groups, fishing organisations and communities working towards sustainable use of coastal resources.  A small grant and materials from Ocean 2012 are gratefully acknowledged as well as a prize from Inland Fisheries Ireland.
