Emy & District Anglers Ltd, based in Emyvale, Co Monaghan are continuing with their successful youth development policy in 2012. In an effort to recruit new anglers to the sport the club recently hosted the first of a number of planned fly fishing YOUTH workshops on Saturday February 25th on Emy Lough, Emyvale, Co. Monaghan. A number of aspiring young anglers attended including, Cadhla Mc Kenna, Calum Mc Kenna and Cormac Watterson. Following the workshop, Cormac successfully managed to catch his and Emy’s first wild brown trout of 2012 (approx 2 lb see photo) at around 3.30pm. Cadhla Mc Kenna was also into a good trout but unfortunately it got away. The mild weather has brought out the early ‘duck-fly’ hatch along the peaceful bathing shore. The trout pictured below fell according to the ‘Derrygasson Upper’ a ‘secret fly’ a friend gave Cormac last season. The trout was safely returned to the lake to have the chance to grow bigger and fight again another day. Many thanks to adult helpers Liam Murray, Inland Fisheries Ireland, Enda Fields, Martin Mc Kenna (Oriel Park) & Martin Mc Kenna (Drumully) for attending and providing advice at the workshop.

The next youth workshop is planned for this Saturday March 10th 2012 from 2.30-3.30pm. Meet at Emy Lough bathing shore carpark. The event is free of charge. If any youths or adult beginners would like to learn the ‘art of fly fishing’ please contact Enda @ 087 6319298.
