Birr Angling report by Pat McDonnell

Lough Derg:

A local angler from Garrykennedy had a superb trout weighing 9lbs while deep trolling for pike on Roach Rappalla, the fish was photographed are returned. It was also reported from Ballina that a 13lbs trout was taken during a club pike competition.

Portumna :

Very few anglers about with the high water, but two English anglers fishing Rogers Island did have two good days with bags of 25lbs reported for their efforts. Two local anglers fishing for pike out of Terryglass had a fine trout weighing 10.5lbs which was returned.

Little Brosna and Camcor River :

Anglers were reporting plenty of  fish in the lower and mid reaches of the Little Brosna but the floods have adversely impacted on the fishing here with a lot of coloured water. Some fish have been reported with David Cooke, Birr landing a 2.5lbs trout on worm and Gavin Carroll, also Birr reporting a 3 fish to 2lbs.

Pallas Lake:

Not as many people fishing Pallas at the moment due to weather conditions but anglers are getting some nice fish. John Colgon, Tullamore had 2 fish to 2lbs on Hawthorn fly, while Noel Egan also Tullamore had 2 fish for 3.5lbs on a Golden Olive. Local man Christy Geoghegan had 5 fish up to 2lbs, all returned. One Birr angler reported 3lbs Rainbow on a dryfly.
