There is something special about the first fish that you catch and this goes equally for a new species as well. Pat Bellew and his son Seanie were joined at the Brothers Lake last night Wednesday 19th June in Carrickmacross by Dick Caplice and the objective of the mission was for young Seanie to catch his first ever tench. Expertly tutored by Dick Caplice and supported by dad Pat, himself an accomplished coarse angler, Seanie finally achieved his goal and landed his first tench on the pole. The fish took a sweetcorn bait and put up a good fight before finally being netted. Weather and water conditions were good but the fishing was described as tough although a nice hybrid was also taken and approximately 12 to 14 other fish.

Also, on the Boyne Canal last night a number of anglers were also trying their luck. The bright sunshine always makes fishing difficult on the canal but as the sun lowered in the sky a few bites started to materialize and finally young Harry Carolan’s float disappeared and his fishing rod curved into a fairly substantial fish. The fish took a float fished maggot and weighed in at 15ozs.
