Brian Bohan reports that fishing  in the upper Shannon is, to say the least, a bit patchy.  If you are thinking of fishing in shallow water it seems best to reconsider and to hit venues that have a descent depth in front of you.  A good example is a lake  like  Clonnahee which has easy access.  Other lakes  in this area, such  as Clooncraft  and Donnen, which are a bit harder to get to, unless by boat,  will also produce some nice fishing.

Lough Brann outside  Carrick on Shannon on the Leitrim village road  has a good depth with lots of roach and hybrids.  The late evenings and early mornings are best  for the better stamp of fish. There are still some nice catches of fish coming off the deeper areas on the river Shannon itself with some nice fish at the Jamestown stretch. Lough  Scur,  both  Pump  House and  The Rocks, is fishing reasonably well.

I’d advise all anglers to keep in mind IFI’s advice not to use keepnets while water temperatures remain high. Big bream in particular don’t do well in those sort of conditions.
