Two visiting English anglers had a great weeks fishing last week netting over 350lbs of bream, hybrids and roach on the Shannon near Portumna. They caught bream and hybrids to 4lbs and roach to 2 lbs 8ozs on feeder alternating corn and red maggot bait.
Pike have been very active also. Having lost several decent size Roach and Bream to marauding Pike I set up a Roach dead bait and the first cast produced a Pike of 11lb which was released further down stream a second cast produced a similar sized fish. I then moved a few hundred yards upstream and continued to fish for Bream and Roach closing the day with 40lbs of fish.
Perch also feeding well on worm bait with an angler from Portumna Fishing Club netting a 3lb 8oz specimen near the bridge.
