Following some fantastic fishing on Lisanisk 2 weeks ago, Mark Carolan of the Drogheda Coarse Angling Club (DCAC) reports this week on a real grueler. That’s the best and only way to describe last Sunday’s league match which was the forth of the spring/summer fixtures. With a one hour road trip ahead of us, we all set out with great ambition and high hopes of catching big fish and lots of them. Once again, eight hopefuls graced the banks of Barnagrow in Co. Monaghan on a beautiful May morning and the lake looked fantastic. With five hours of match time ahead of us, we couldn’t wait to get going. After a long trek to our pegs we got started. Mark Carolan was the first to land a fish and Shane O’Reilly, Brendan O’Brian and Mark Heffernan followed suit, but sadly the four other anglers never managed to land a fish. All the fish came at thirty five turns of the reel, into ten foot of water and seventeen foot of water for some. The feeder was the best method on the day, with double red maggot on the hook and a three foot hook length. Only a hand full of fish were caught, but they were of a good stamp with Roach, Bream, Hybrids, and Perch among them. Yet again Mark Heffernan took first place with 3lb 3oz, and also in the money today, with a section win was a delighted Brendan O’Brian with 2lb 8oz. Well done to all who stuck it out today. Our next match is on Church Lake on Sunday the 9th of June. Lets hope lady luck is on our side that day!
