The excellent fishing at the one day Open match on the Sunday preceding the festival gave us an idea of what was to come. Ewan Weed won the one day event with 96lbs including a magnificent 8lb 4oz bream.
The festival itself which took place from Thursday 22nd to Sunday 25th August run by the Kingfisher Club with the support of the Lakeside Manor Hotel at Lough Ramor, Virginia, co. Cavan provided four days of consistent fishing. 20kg was needed to win a section.
Average catches for the five hours fishing consisted of 200 fish mostly Hybrids and Roach with a few large Bream showing; Tommy Dowd won the Island Section with 3 Bream in his catch of 23kg and on the last day Kevin Ashurst again on the Island Section had a 6lb 4oz Bream in his 28kg catch giving him top weight of the day and placing him in 2nd place for the festival.
The long pole, short line was the dominant method with some anglers catching on the whip. Every peg fished very positively with most festival regulars making the point that it was the most consistent fishing they could remember.
