The Lough Muckno Easter Festival 2 has been taking place this week and is currently being fished between the 2nd and 5th April at venues on Black Island and White Island. Water levels have fallen considerably in the lake in recent weeks but air and water temperatures have been way below normal for the time of year. Anglers had to brave biting cold winds and freezing temperatures on Monday but the weather has improved slightly since then but it is still very cold. Today on Day 3 of the event 25+ anglers again fished at Black and White Islands. Wednesday reportedly produced one of the best weights of the week so far at peg 70 on Black Island. This nice net, 8.5kg of fish, was taken by Rory O’Neill who also had a section winning weight today Thursday 4th on section A with a nice mixed bag weighing 7.080kg. Baz Smith managed 6.620kg from section B today and Darren Fairhurst from the UK and Dublin netted 6.160kg from his peg at White Island. Feeder, fished between 60m and 45 turns produced best results. Catches consisted mainly of roach with some nice hybrids. Bites were quite finnicky even when they did come in what can only be described as very challenging conditions. The final day of the event will take place tomorrow Friday 5th and results will be posted as soon as they are available.
