SENATOR Denis O’Donovan – who previously lobbied for Bantry Harbour Board to retain its autonomy and successfully secured amendments that has allowed for a public consultation process – has welcomed an announcement by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, last Thursday, seeking submissions.

Between now and April 5th next, members of the public and all interested parties will be able to express their views on plans to merge Bantry Bay Harbour with the Port of Cork company by sending an email to:  [email protected] or by writing to the Maritime Transport Division, Bantry Harbour Consultation, Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Leeson Lane, Dublin 2.

It is Government policy is to merge harbours that have significant commercial traffic with a port company, and to transfer smaller harbours to a local authority…..
