The number 13 might be considered unlucky but for two anglers on New Year’s Day, 2013 was anything but unlucky as they jointly claimed the first salmon of the year on Kinlough’s famed River Drowes last Tuesday. Colin Gardiner from Lurgan and Timmy Dalton from Omagh were fishing four miles away from each other but both were timed as landing the first salmon of the year at 12.20 pm on New Year’s Day, with Drowes Salmon Fishery owner Shane Gallagher awarding both men the Drowes Perpetual Cup.
