The 2013 Lough Ree Angling Festival & World Cup has been launched:
The popular boat angling event is staged over three days – April 17-18-19 – on the largest lake in the midlands of Ireland and is renowned for its large pike. Last year there were 17 pike caught that measured more than one metre and the largest fish, which won €3,000 English angler Martyn Cusworth from Yorkshire, was 108.5cms.
180 anglers are expected to compete in the festival and the World Pike Cup for total prize fund of €21,000. It’s a great event with three traditional Irish presentation evenings and a terrific holiday and lots of fun.
Lough Ree is 16 miles long and the second largest lake on the Shannon system and it has been chosen based on the quality of its pike angling. All lawful angling methods will be allowed and for conservation reasons all fish will be measured and released immediately. Anglers fishing from boats will be required to have their own digital camera so that any fish caught can be photographed and released immediately.
The entry fee is €40 per angler per day or €100 for three days. All monies will be returned in cash prizes – plus the €3,000 first prize.
There is a strict closing closing date of April 10 when all entry fees must be paid
