Billy Downes of the Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers Association reports:

Wednesday August 7th: The anglers making the news yesterday at Johnston’s were two men who hooked and landed their first fish in two years both on fly. They were Conor Cunnane a Tralee native now bringing enlightenment to Kildare and Paddy Murphy also from Tralee. I met both of them as I left Johnston’s having given up on any prospect of a fish. It just goes to show that perseverance pays off and brings its reward. Paddy caught his fish from the disabled stand in the car park another first this year with fly. See photos in album below.

Friday August 9th: News of fish from the Laune has slowed down considerably during the week but a few fish were caught each day. The netting in the Laune will finish for the week today so chances of a fish will improve over the weekend. Chairman Stewart Stephens fished Beat 3 last evening and met a salmon and landed three sea trout which were all released. Note sea lice on flank of fish.
