Owenea Fishery report from Lindsey Clarke…

Once again, conditions were challenging on the Owenea River. We received 3 minor floods on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday but these saw the river well coloured. Overall the river was low for the week. The gauge average for the week read 0.17 metres. The river really needs a couple of decent floods.

36 visiting rods fished for the week and there were a few grilse recorded. On Tuesday, Pierre Rumeau recorded 2 grilse weighing 4 & 5lb caught on a fly from beat 9. On Wednesday, Niall Hosey reported 2 grilse to 3lb caught on worm from beat 8 and Hugh Frazer logged a 4lb grilse caught on a fly from beat 4. On Friday, Niall reported another grilse caught on worm from beat 8.
