The countrys best sea anglers arrived into Donegal bay last weekend for the Findlater , interprovincial , Irish home nations team qualifier and Cartys Land and Sea Sports open comps which were held in Mullaghmore . The well ran events were managed by local angler and club man to both Mullaghmore and Bundoran clubs Boris Seigel and the Bait was supplied by Cartys Land and sea sports. Weather , tides and general conditions were against the organisers and anglers but Donegal bay still put up some great sport with approx 3000 fish caught and released over the two days of fishing made up of 17 species including Spotted ray , John Dory , Bollan wrasse , Coalie , Cod , Corkwing wrasse , Cookoowrase , Dab , Flounder , Red gurnard , Tub gurnard , Ling , Lesser spotted dogfish , Pollock , Poorcod , Pouting and Conger.
The big sand barr that developed over the winter months at the enterance to Mullaghmore harbour also complicated proceedings with organisers having to get a tender boat to bring 40 of the anglers ashore on the Saturday when their charter vessels could not get across the shallow water into the pier . It is hoped that the authorities will rectify this situation sooner rather than later as at present there is no pier of harbour on the southern shore of the bay accessible at low tides and along with local charters , commercial and pleasure craft ,the emergency services could also find themselves with problems .
Donegal had a great result at the weekend with two Ballyshannon men Micheal Patton and Danny Kane qualifying onto the Irish home nations team and with Micheal being the overall winner on the Sunday he will Captain the team into the next season . The results for the weekend comps were as follows :
