Wexford guide Sid Jones of Fishing Ireland reports from his Cork fishing trip:
What a great weekend fishing in Cork. Saturday threw up some Mackerel and over 40 pollack all caught while spinning with Shamrock P-line lures and the Blackrock bass attack rod available from Colm Murphy Wigeon’s Rest Rosslare.
Sundays boat trip was afloat on the Lady Louise skippered by Mark E Gannon and what a day it was… Blue skies and Blue shark !! we stopped off for some Fresh Mackerel first for bait and we all got to work using Shamrock rigs … The Bullseye rig was working excellent with everyone catching Mackerel and too many fully loaded lines to mention and a few nice pollack were taken on these too, we moved off for some pollack where the Kilmore Killers were fantastic with some big pollack brought to the boat while using them. The Micky fish rig worked a treat, fish were landed on all the Shamrock rigs we used and the lads were delighted try them out and land some lovely fish with them.
We moved off to deep water in search of Blue Shark next and played the waiting game !! 4 shark in total. Gearoid McCarthy from West Cork and District SAC with a 151 cm Blue Shark, I landed a 148 cm Blue Shark, another Blue Shark was brought to the boat by Cullen Kirwan and Terry O Donovan from West Cork SAC fought a bigger Blue Shark which managed to set itself free….. The 2 Blue Shark landed were tagged and released. Thank you to Mark Gannon and his deck hand Shane who provided a brilliant service. An excellent day was had by one and all.
