John Devaney, IFI Limerick, reports that Mayfly are showing on Lough Ree for nearly a week but there has been no major hatch as yet. With the weather expected to warm up over the coming days local anglers are on full alert. Very few big fish have been caught but a good number of 1 to 2 lb have been landed.

Conditions have been very calm there has been lots of fly on the water at evening time. However Mark Creaven and Michael Carroll managed to catch 10 with 4 over 3 lb’s on Saturday near Quaker Island.

One of the bigger ones…

While the majority of fish reported have been small to date Michael Flanagan, Angling Guide and Reporter, tells us that the  May Fly have stirred at least one huge trout  and they don’t come much bigger than 8lbs plus!

Tommy Berry of Athlone boated a super trout of 8lbs 2oz on the Dry May Fly. In the coming days as the spent drift across Ree, more cracking trout will come on line.
