Shaun Hegarty reports that on Sunday 20th of October members of the Foxford Angling Club in Co. Mayo had a most enjoyable day rainbow trout fishing at Curragh Springs Fishery in Co Kildare. Stephen Browne and Joe Ferguson were into the action early on and caught fish steadily using blob and buzzer patterns. David Turner had an excellent day and caught many hard fighting trout using a gold head lure. Dominic McGowan also had consistent sport on a lure pattern throughout the day. John Burke had 11 fish on mainly blob patterns and Eddie Coleman caught and released 8 well conditioned fish. Stephen Behan who was learning to fly fish caught his first fish on the fly rod and he finished up with a commendable total of 6 fish on blobs and buzzers. John O’Connell fished a floating line and a slowly retrieved Montana nymph for the day and this tactic deceived many trout for him. Gerry Heaslip had decent success on blob patterns and Billy Murphy had success targeting individual fish with small dry flies as opposed to fishing on the blind. Billy McGhee caught fish using lures and buzzers during the day and Stephen Browne rounded off the evening by picking up a few fish on the dry fly. This is the club’s second trip to Curragh Springs and all the anglers were delighted at the facilities there, the lively fishing that they had using different techniques as well as the hard fighting fish that they encountered there. They definitely plan on coming back again!
