Michael Flanagan reports on the fishing recently at Lough Ennell…
Quite a few Anglers are Out & about on Ennell at the moment and plenty of super trout are showing on the Lake. The fish look as if they are on a feeding frenzy as they pitch right up from the lake, and lash perch fry from the surface. Its hard going trying to catch an Ennell trout, but at times like this a few fish will take the bait. I hooked 8 fish last week and managed to boat just 2 but one of my catches weighed 5.40lbs, and was a beautiful looking fish.
The Ennell fish are one of the hardest fighting fish I have ever come across, and when you hit the 5lbs mark you know you have a fish on line. Quite a few anglers had success on Ennell last week, with Tullamore Angler Conor Lunch in the thick of the action, as was Joe McDermott of Longford, and Barry Darby our local Predator Angling expert. Paul Moran also of Mullingar had a lovely fish from Ennell, trolling well out from Dysart Island.
It’s certainly worth a few days on Ennell in the coming weeks, be it trolling, fly fishing, or give the Dapping a lash. Lilliput Boat hire has a fleet of boats and engines for hire and can be contacted on 087-6492866.
