My spirits lifted considerably yesterday while doing a check on the Sheet of Water. To my great joy I saw a couple of fish rising – it’s heartening to think that Spring is just around the corner.
This is an ideal place for anglers to get their casting practice in before the season opens in the next few weeks (Yippee!) as this is a stretch of water more resembling a river than lake.
Typical river set up’s are perfect as the water is not particularly deep – a 5wt rod being perfectly adequate.
Anyone wondering what flies to pack for a trip should consider flies with a bit of ‘bling’ as well as more traditional patterns such as Hares ears.
A 6 hour permit continues to be half price at €25. Anglers should note that this means they can fish for both Pike on the Rye Lake and Trout on the Sheet of Water (Fly only) in this timeframe – so if one is not working the other might. This offer is open until the start of the season on March 1st.
