Audrius Audrelis was pike fishing at Portumna on Saturday. The weather was fine, though cold so he made an early start. As the day drew on the rain started and it was soon a very miserable afternoon. It was a long quiet day for Audrius and after a number of hours watching the river flow sluggishly by he thought of heading home.
But during a lull in the rain his rod gave a slight nod. The nod developed into a bend and he struck into a fine fish. Not the pike he was expecting on the legered roach deadbait but lively trout. He played the fish to the net and there it was; his first trout which was weighed at 4.41 kg. Audrius fished on but that was it for the day.
