Lough Muckno is well known for the quality of its coarse angling and never ceases to surprise. Anglers constantly seek to find that magical formula that will bring success and keep the fish in the swim and feeding, all day, especialy during a match. On a recent outing to Concra Wood on Muckno I simply added four medium feeders of groundbait and nothing more. Two red maggots fished on a .10 hook-length and size 12 hook brought good success but dozens of bites missed. Scaling down to a size 16 hook and a single maggot and keeping tight in touch with the bait brought very small roach, 1oz to 2ozs. Some nice roach as well but what was surprising was how little feed was required. I suppose that more feed might have gotten rid of the tiny fish but that’s for another day. It was still nearly a bite a chuck at 55 turns. What a venue!
